面临胶葛时，很多人或许都在无意间扮演或充当过一个人物——“和事老”。
“和事老”，也写作“和事佬”，字面意思是“调解争端的人（mediator, someone who tries to bring peace）”。“和事”指“停息事情或争端、调理纷争（mediate, make peace）”，“佬”表明“成年男人（guy, fellow）”。
“和事老”一般带有贬义，特指不讲准则、不问对错而一味劝两边宽和的人（person who is more concerned with stopping the bickering than settling the issue）。
例句：
你今日可得说个谁对谁错，不能遇事总当和事佬。
Tell us who’s in the right and who’s in the wrong. You can’t act like a peacemaker every time there is a dispute.
